32At evening, when the sun had set, they brought to Him all who were sick and those who were demon-possessed. 33And the whole city was gathered together at the door. 34Then He healed many who were sick with various diseases, and cast out many demons; and He did not allow the demons to speak, because they knew Him.
Word spreads! He cast out a demon in the synagogue in the morning, healed Peter's mother-in-law after that, and by sunset, the entire city gathered where Jesus was staying.
I thought I read somewhere that Sabbath ends at sunset. So I wonder if there is any significance that people waited till after sunset to ask for Jesus' help. So I think they were still in keeping with Jewish law even while trying to meet with Jesus.
For me, by the time evening rolls around, I am ready to simply vegetate in front of the TV. Don't ask me to do anything at that point. I am down to relax for the rest of the day till I go to bed. I wonder at the whole city gathering for help after sunset. Jesus had a lot to do for these hurting people. It didn't matter that He had already had a very full day. Do I miss opportunities to do God's work when I shut down early in the evening? God's work doesn't end just because I am tired for the day.
Again, it is pointed out that Jesus didn't allow the Demons to speak. Is that because He simply didn't want to hear the demons proclaiming him, or was it that he didn't want people to know who he really was yet? This is a question I would like to examine further as I read more of the scripture.
I am still amazed at the power Jesus demonstrated over the demons. He somehow did not allow them to speak and yet without destroying them.
